School of International and Public Policy   20th Anniversary Special Site〜

20th Anniversary Fundraising
We Appreciate Your Kind Support!

This year, as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations, the School of International and Public Policy (IPP) is calling for donations to the IPP Fund. We would be extremely grateful to alumni and their families, retired faculty and staff, companies that have a relationship with the school through the dispatch and recruitment of employees, and everyone who supports our educational activities, if you would kindly donate to help us in enriching the IPP's education.
Donations received will be accumulated as the IPP Fund and used carefully every year for the following purposes.

    1. To increase the amount and scope of grants available to students to participate in practical and advanced learning in Japan and overseas, including studying abroad.
    2. To subsidize the costs of exchanges between faculty members of our school and international partners to enrich education at the IPP.
    3. To provide subsidies for necessary expenses approved by the Fund Management Committee to improve education at the IPP.

Our goal is to ask for a total of 10 million yen in donations by the end of this fiscal year.  We would like to explain the background and intentions behind this request below.

Note: A credit card is required to make donation from overseas (Donation to Hitotsubashi University Fund). We are sorry that some of you may have to give up making a donation even if you want to do so because of this requirement.

The IPP was founded in 2005, as a professional school in Hitotsubashi University, to cultivate human resources who can solve various social issues facing Japan and the world. In research-oriented graduate schools, students will improve their own expertise by learning theories and analyitical tools based on academic research. However, this alone is not enough to solve complex social issues. It is necessary to improve at least the following two abilities:

    1. Ability to consider problems from multiple perspectives in a multifaceted way, by learning basic theories of other research fields without being confined to one's own field of expertise.
    2. The ability to apply theories and tools in solving actual problems and to work with others to solve them.
These two abilities, however, were difficult to acquire at the research-oriented graduate schools that had been the core of the graduate education in Japan.
Based on this awareness of the problem, the IPP has developed education system to cultivate highly skilled human resources who can design and implement high-quality policies to solve various social issues ( see our "20-Year Journey" page).
To achieve the goal, it is important that students can learn multifaceted perspectives and practical skills in the school.  We have particularly focused on (1) Opportunities for practical learning, (2) Opportunities to study abroad, and (3) Interaction with students and faculty from overseas universities. We have created such diverse learning opportunities in the IPP and established a grant system, financed by the support from the Hitotsubashi University Fund, to encourage "active learning" of students.
Through such learning and experiences, our students have broadened their horizons and acquired not only expertise but also multifaceted perspectives and practical skills. The ability to solve various social issues is required not only in the public sector but also in private companies. Our graduates are actively working not only in the public sector but also in the private sector both in Japan and overseas.
However, it requres a lot of expenses for students to participate in such opportunities, and the grants that our school can provide are limited.  Unfortunately, we are not able to provide sufficient subsidies, resulting in a restcition on our sturdents' participation in various learning opportunities. In particular, due to the weaker yen in recent years, the financial barriers to study abroad are getting higher for students.
As the operating expenses subsidy for national universities is gradually decreasing, the budget allocated to IPPs from Hitotsubashi University is also decreasing, making it difficult to maintain the level of our educational activities.  The university urges us to acquire financial resources through our own efforts.
As a small professional school of public policy, the IPP has not been proactive in collecting donations. Now that we are 20 years old, it is important to aim for independence, esepcially because our annual budget is shrinking.  We decided to make our 20th anniversary as a starting point of our fundraising efforts.

As it is our 20th anniversary, we wanted to aim for raising 20 million yen, but we feel that such a goal is too high. Therefore, this year, we would like to start with the goal of asking for a total of 10 million yen.  I will donate 1 million yen myself so that you can understand that the IPP fund is extremely important for the future of our school and that it will be used with care. We would be very grateful if you could give us your warm support.
Since we will be using the donation system of the Hitotsubashi University Fund, the procedure for making donation is very easy. The procedure itself will take only about 10 minutes.  In addition, donations to Hitotsubashi University are eligible for preferential tax treatment, so if you file a tax in Japan, a portion of your donation will be returned to you in the form of a tax reduction or refund.
      As a national university,
Hitotsubashi University makes it possible for you to make donations in a way that reduces the actual burden on you. We hope you will consider supporting our 20th anniversary fundraising.

As this is the 20th anniversary fundraising campain, we also would like to ask you to write a message when you make donation.  Your name will be shown on the donors' message page  (scheduled to be open until the end of 2026).  If you do not wish your name to be shown, only your message will be shown (please see the donation procedure page  for how to write a message).  For high-value donors who donate above a certain amount, a plaque with their name will be displayed at the university or at the Joshui Kaikan Hall as a donation to the Hitotsubashi University fund. We would also like to show your name and message on the 20th anniversary fundraising website, by donation amount category.

Details of the donation procedure and donor message will be provided on the following website. We ask for your kind support to enrich learning experience of students and to maintain our educational activities at IPP.
